A first birthday is decorated for two audiences: the baby, who will not remember it, and the camera, which everyone will look at for the next twenty years. Plan for the camera. Here is how we do it in Patna homes, where the room is usually smaller than the Pinterest board.
Start with one wall, not the whole room
The single most common mistake is spreading decoration thinly across a whole hall. Pick one wall — ideally the one facing the window light — and put everything there. Every photo of the day will be taken in front of it: the cake cutting, the family group, the grandparents holding the baby.

Timing: when to start the setup
Most first-birthday setups take our team 1.5 to 3 hours. Work backwards from the cake cutting, not from the guest arrival time:
- Cake cutting at 6 pm → we start by 3 pm
- Add an hour if the theme has props or ceiling work
- Add an hour in the monsoon — traffic in Patna is unpredictable and we would rather be early
Babies of this age usually nap in the afternoon. Tell us the nap window and we will work around it rather than through it.
Things people forget
- A plug point near the wall. Fairy lights and a warm-white lamp make the biggest difference to evening photos, and both need power.
- Ceiling fan clearance. Balloons and a running fan do not coexist. We will position around it, but tell us in advance.
- Where the cake table goes. It should be in front of the backdrop, not beside it.

We take 35% advance to confirm the date, and the balance only after the setup is finished and you have seen it.
